2021 U.S. Open Betting Preview, Picks, and Predictions

The playing of the 2021 U.S. Open begins on Thursday, June 17, at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, CA, outside of San Diego. This will be the 121st playing of the U.S. Open and the second time at Torrey.

We get to see the tournament held on a course we see every year, which is rare for a U.S. Open. Both the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines are played during the Farmers Insurance Open held annually at the end of January. The U.S. Open will be played exclusively on the South track.

Torrey Pines - South Course

The South Course at Torrey Pines is a brute, even more so when the USGA grows out the rough and rolls the greens. Designed by Will Bell Sr. and debuting in 1957, the course can stretch to 7,800 yards, making it one of the longest courses Tour players will face.

The par-71 track underwent a pair of redesigns in 2001 and 2019 by Rees Jones. Usually a par-72, the course will play as a par-71 for the U.S. Open.

U.S. Open Field

Half of the U.S. Open field is determined by final qualifying that took place over the last few months. Club pros, amateurs and non-exempt professionals all took part in the grueling qualifying process to punch their ticket to Torrey.

The top 60 golfers in the world are in, along with past winners of the four majors. Another interesting note is 14 golfers in the field that played in the 2008 U.S. Open.

U.S. Open Betting Picks

Looking at the field, there are some key items you want to follow before making your picks. Course history, current form, and individual statistics that fit the golf course are three areas you’ll want to focus on.

Outside of the Masters, the other majors rotate venues, so it’s difficult to look back at course history for assistance. Luckily, as we mentioned earlier, Torrey Pines is an annual host for PGA players.

The current form relates to how a player has faired in tournaments played over the last two to three months. Ideally, you want your selections to have posted a handful of top finishes prior to a major championship.

Finally, key statistics can help eliminate a majority of players from contention. As they say, stats don’t lie. Driving accuracy, driving distance, bogey avoidance, and strokes gained numbers are key indicators of a player’s possible performance.

U.S. Open Betting Predictions

It is safe to say that half the field can be eliminated from contention to win the 2021 U.S. Open, along with the handful of players making their first start in a major.
