Cavs are Due for a Big Time Win: Here's Why

The Cleveland Cavaliers (9-9) head into Wednesday night action at home against the Phoenix Suns (14-3). The two teams square off with completely different storylines, as the Suns are one of the NBAs hottest teams, winning their last 13 games, the first time the franchise has done so since the 2006-2007 season. The Cavs, however, have lost their last 4 games after what looked like a very promising start to the season.

It’s hard not to think about what the Cavs could have been leading up to this point if it weren’t for injuries getting to them once again. The Cavs have lost guard Collin Sexton for the remainder of the season, as Sexton underwent season ending surgery to repair his torn meniscus. Rookie sensation Evan Mobley remains out due to an elbow injury, while Darius Garland is questionable for Wednesday's contest with a neck sprain.

While Garland being sidelined or not definitely has a big effect on every aspect of this game, the Cavaliers have battled all season long, despite injuries. One of the things the Cavs have preached throughout this slow rebuild process has been competitiveness. The last few years, it hasn’t been there. This season? Absolutely.

Led by their “big three”, the Suns again are just on fire. Winning 13 in a row is never easy, let alone in the NBA. However, just under half of those games come against teams currently with a losing record. On the other hand, the Cavs have had one of the league's toughest schedules so far this season, and still sit at 9-9.

The current line for this game is Suns -7.5. However, I don’t believe this is by any means a lock. Even if Garland remains out, the Cavs have one of this year's best backups to slide into his place in Ricky Rubio. The Cavs are yet to really be on the negative side of a complete blowout this season, again pointing back to how competitive the team has been so far this season. The Suns are due for a loss, while the Cavs are due for a win.

Betting pick: Cavs +7.5
