Cincinnati Reds Early Odds To Win World Series for 2022

The Cincinnati Reds overperformed in 2021, but in the most Cincinnati fashion, they still somehow found a way to let the fans down. They were in a prime position to be in a wild card spot with a couple of months left in the season with the easiest schedule remaining.

Their opponents, who were fighting with the Reds for this spot, had some of the hardest schedule remaining. The Reds continually lost series to let that lead and their playoff chances slip away. In their defense, the St. Louis Cardinals had a historic run to solidify their spot in the wild card before losing in the wild-card game in the playoffs.

As we are still very far away from the start of the 2022 MLB Season, let's look at the Cincinnati Reds and their odds to win the World Series next year.

Odds to Win the World Series

The Reds have relatively decent odds to win the World Series compared to most teams in the MLB at +4000. They are tied for 12th most likely to win the World Series and ahead of two out of the other four teams in the NL Central. The Milwaukee Brewers (+1500) and the St. Louis Cardinals (+2800) are ahead of the Reds.

2022 Season Outlook

The Cincinnati Reds lost Tucker Barnhart and Wade Wiley to other teams just recently, with Nick Castellanos still on the fence. The Reds will be hoping to keep their slugger to help foster and lead the young core of players that the Reds will have next year. It will be hard for the Reds to build on their productive season if most of their veterans leave for next year.

Jonathan India, the newly named NL Rookie of the Year, will be back next year and should be a huge part of this team. India was the first-position player from the Reds since Chris Sabo won it in 1988. Tyler Stephenson will most likely step into the starting catcher role with the departure of Barnhart.

The young pitching staff led by Vladamir Gutierrez and Reiver Sanmartin will need to step up to produce for the young pitching staff next season. The Reds have the possibility of returning all starters besides Miley, which should help strengthen the pitching that struggled in 2021. 

The Reds' incoming rookie class looks strong again behind Jose Barrero, Nick Lodol, and Hunter Greene. Barrero got some time in the major leagues last season, but his rookie status remains intact. Greene is a fast-throwing pitcher who has shown to hit triple digits on his fastball consistently.

Reds 2022 Expectations

Reds fans always expect the most out of their team, but I wouldn't expect this team to do anything incredibly special with the team they have next season. It is hard to see where the production will come from with such a young core and lack of experience. The Reds need to be able to retain talent past a couple of years to be able to solidify a core season by season.
