Cleveland Cavaliers vs Charlotte Hornets February 4, 2022 NBA Betting Preview

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently 31-21 but have dropped two of their last three games.

The Charlotte Hornets, on the other hand, are 28-24, as they’ve lost two straight games.

This should be a fun one!

The spread for Sunday night is set at CHA -4.5. The over/under is sitting at 218.5 points. 

Darius Garland Out Yet Again

Darius Garland is out for his third straight contest due to a back injury, as the Cavs clearly missed his presence in their latest game, which was a loss to the Houston Rockets.

Brandon Goodwin dished out eight assists in Garland’s absence but was only able to provide seven points. 

Cedi Osman has proven capable of stepping up his playmaking skills whenever he needs to do so, but in his last game, he had just one assist.

There’s a reason why Garland was named an All-Star reserve last night, as the Cavs truly go as far as Garland takes them. 

Evan Mobley Bounces Back

Evan Mobley put up 29 points and 12 rebounds the other night after shooting just 1-of-7 from the field the game before.

Mobley benefits from having a playmaker like Garland to get him going, but he can create his own offense in his own right, as he can use his footwork and frame to get good looks in the post or use his soft touch to convert mid-range jumpers.

In going up against a smaller Charlotte team, Mobley should continue to be able to capitalize on looks near the rim.

Watch Out For LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball is coming off a 38 point, nine assist, six rebound, and two steal performance his last time out, as he also drilled four 3-pointers.

Ball is averaging 27.0 points, 8.2 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game over his last five games.

If he felt snubbed from the All-Star Game, we might see an even more motivated Ball show out in this one.

Miles Bridges struggled in his last time out, shooting just 2-of-8 from the field. However, in his ten games prior, he was averaging 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. With his recent track record, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Bridges get back on track.

Terry Rozier should be a threat for the Hornets as well, as he put up 23 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals his last time out.

Hornets Win

Without Garland, the Cavs have almost no point guard depth with Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton both out for the season. Rajon Rondo hasn’t quite stepped into Rubio’s role like many people were hoping.

With that being said, point guard play is very important in an NBA game, and without their All-Star point guard, the Cavs will have trouble at times finding their rhythm offensively throughout the course of the game.

Expect the Hornets to win this game and cover the spread.
