Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Houston Rockets February 2, 2022 NBA Betting Preview

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently 31-20, as they’ve won four of their last five games.

The Houston Rockets, on the other hand, are 14-36, as they’ve lost four straight games.

Filling in For Darius Garland

Darius Garland missed Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans due to a back injury; as there’s a strong chance, he’ll be out for this one as well.

In Garland’s absence, Brandon Goodwin supplied 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, helping the Cavs squeak out a win over one of the worst teams in the league.

Cedi Osman picked up the slack in terms of playmaking, as he dished out 12 assists. Osman has the ability to catch fire from downtown and can use his craftiness around the rim, so it will be imperative for opposing defenses to take that into account.

While Goodwin and Osman can inflict damage in their own right, there is just simply no replacing what Garland gives the Cavs on a nightly basis.

Evan Mobley Struggles in Last Time Out

Evan Mobley finally looked human in his last time out, as he finished with just four points on 1-of-7 shooting from the field.

While that was an ugly performance, Cavs fans should have nothing to worry about, as Mobley averaged 17.1 points on nearly 56 percent shooting to go along with 7.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game over his last 17 games.

If Mobley’s struggles carry into this game, then the Cavs could call on Kevin Love to pick up some of the slack, as Love had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists in the Cavs’ latest game.

Watch Out For Christian Wood

The Rockets need a win in the worst way unless they remain committed to tanking for the first overall pick. 

While the Rockets are pretty much pushovers at this point, they still do have Christian Wood in their starting lineup, as the talented center is averaging 20.2 points on nearly 53 percent shooting to go along with 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks in his last 12 games.

Former Cavalier Kevin Porter Jr. is having a nice stretch of games recently, as he’s averaging 17.4 points on over 47 percent shooting to go along with 7.6 assists per game over his last seven games. Perhaps KPJ will have something extra to prove in this one.

Cavs Win

The Cavs want to get every win they can right now so they can lock up one of the better records in the Eastern Conference.

The Rockets have players capable of going off for big performances, but it just hasn’t led to wins for them all season long.

Expect the Cavs to come out on top in this one and cover the spread.
