Trevor Story smashes a solo home run against the Washington Nationals in 2021.

So in case you live under a rock, the MLB owners and their players are currently in a lockout and could miss some games for this upcoming season.

However, there are still incredibly valuable free agents on the board once an agreement hits. Today, we will dive into some of the top remaining free agents left on the board for teams to sign once they are allowed to.

Carlos Correa (Shortstop)

Correa leads the free agents as he is one of the best players in the entire sport. Looking at the 2021 season, he played 148 games and finished with a .279/.366/.485 slash line. He hit 26 home runs and 92 RBI at the dish, and won the Platinum Glove. He is entering his 27-year-old season and should get a huge contract.

He performs incredibly well in the postseason as well, as he has 18 home runs and 59 RBI in 79 career games. All that wrapped up into a great player should do wonders for whichever team he is in the middle of the lineup for.

Freddie Freeman (First Baseman)

Coming off winning a World Series, left-handed slugger Freddie Freeman is in line for getting paid. The 2020 National League MVP does not sit on the bench much or have an injury history as he only missed seven games in the last four seasons.

He has played his entire 12-year career in Atlanta, and it would not shock anyone if he just signs there. But he has won a Gold Glove and could have some suitors as the Yankees and Dodgers are linked to him.

Freeman is one of the best first basemen of this generation and should be able to get a few years in this deal if he so chooses or even a long-term contract. With the team-friendly deals that Atlanta currently has, it would be hard not to picture him wearing the Braves jersey in 2022 and trying to repeat.

Trevor Story (Shortstop)

Whatever team fails to get Correa has a pretty solid backup option in Trevor Story. He was playing all of 2021 expecting to be traded by the Colorado Rockies to a contender, similar to guys like Mookie Betts were, but the Trade Deadline went and gone, and he was still in Colorado.

He had a down year as he finished with a slash line of .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs and 75 RBI. He even incorporates speed into his game by stealing 20 bases.

His fielding is a bit below where you’d want it, as he committed at least ten errors in all but one season of his career. However, this just means a team can get him for a cheaper price than Correa and expect a bounce-back season while the team he plays for is attempting to win a World Series instead of rebuild.

Story is one of the best shortstops in the game of baseball and is entering his age 29 season. He should be entering his prime and continuing to dominate with the bat and his legs.
